On June 13, Platform POST hosts the independent bookmaking collective Binders, Keepers for the workshop Binders, Keepers make Pale-zines. In this workshop participants will each create their own zines reflecting on themes relating to the occupation of Palestinian land and the ongoing violence inflicted on Gaza.
The workshop arose from the collective’s need and urgency to create space for discussion about the state of Palestine and its inhabitants in a country that does not acknowledge a Palestinian state:
“In these past months we from Binders, Keepers have been horrified by the images we’ve all seen online of the terror and destruction, the violence and starvation in Palestine. The collective punishment inflicted with little regard for the lives of Palestinians. In this increasingly desperate situation, we felt the urgency to host a space where people can come together and discuss/put word/put art to feelings we as observers might be feeling; a space for solidarity with Palestine.”
After a short introduction about Palestinian bookmaking and art, participants are invited to create their own zines / artworks about any related themes; Palestinian heroes, martyrs, art, history, feelings of powerlessness, etc.
We would like to highly encourage attendees to bring images or other tools for their own zines. We will provide materials as well.
Binders, Keepers is an independent bookmaking collective hosting accessible bi-weekly workshops since 2021, usually at ArtEZ Arnhem. Our motto is: you bind it, you keep it. Our aim is to show that bookbinding is a fun and useful skill that anybody can pick up.
